This email confirms your registration for philly.NET Code Camp
2009.2. We have a great program in store and hope you have an great
day learning cool new technology and networking with your peers.
Here are a few guidelines that should help you plan your day:
What is Code Camp
- Code Camp is a community run gathering of technical
professionals interested in Microsoft development and server
technology.
- This is the 11th philly.NET Code Camp over 5 years. Other local
user groups help with tracks and sessions.
- Code Camp is free thanks to the sponsors listed on the left
of this page. Please visit them to learn more about their
services.
- Microsoft is actively involved as a sponsor and presenter.
- DeVry University provides the facility and logistical
support.
Registration
- Make sure you register on the web site. We use the name and company to print attendee badges.
- If your plans change and you can't make the event, just
register again. Believe it or not, this removes you from the
list.
- Come to the common room (cafeteria) when you arrive. Proceed to
the registration table and give your email address.
- Please wear your badge throughout the day. It helps staff and peers know who you are.
- Return your badge holder at the end of the day. We do
recycle.
Travel & Parking
- Use any web based map service to find DeVry University in Fort
Washington. Or, play with your GPS.
- Enter the parking lot from Virginia Avenue. Park on
the North side of the campus. That is the far end of the lot.
- Enter the building at the main entrance facing West (good)
or the cafeteria entrance facing North (better).
- There is no charge for parking.
Facility
- We are guests of DeVry University for the day. Classes are in
session throughout the building. Please be considerate.
- Do not enter any rooms unless they are marked with
philly.NET signs.
- All rooms have posted occupancy limits. Chairs are provided.
If all the chairs are taken, please find another session. Do not
stand against the walls or crowd the floor.
- Rest rooms are in the main hallways outside the cafeteria
and library.
- There is no smoking in the building. Please keep all smoking
to the West side of the patio, outside the cafeteria.
- There is no attendee Internet access. Some mobile data
plans work, others don't.
- You can bring a laptop for notes. This is recommended for
the two Beginner Tracks.
Sessions & Speakers
- The agenda is complete. It takes about 6 weeks to coordinate all
the track leads and speakers.
- There are 60 sessions with 53 speakers, but only 5 time
slots. That means 12 concurrent presentations.
- Most rooms are the same size. They fit 50 comfortably. There
is room for everyone in 12 sessions, but not in the same room. If
you cannpt find a chair, please move to an alternate session.
- Plan to arrive at each session as early as possible to get a
seat. If the room is too full, plan for a backup session.
- The Beginner tracks feature entry level hands-on activity.
Bring a laptop with Visual Studio installed if you plan to
attend this track.
- This is a completely volunteer effort so there are no
recordings and sometimes projectors and networks misbehave. Be
patient.
- Room numbers are posted in the agenda and on wall signs.
- There are no printed agendas to keep our budget at a
minimum. You should print lists before you arrive.
- Print schedules by
time,
track, or
full details using these links.
- Schedule changes may happen during the day. They will be
posted on the board in the cafeteria and in the main hall.
- The online schedule will be updated during the day. And yes,
SharePoint is mobile device friendly. Give it a try.
- There are no printed evaluations. They are completed online
using SharePoint. You will get email reminders for this.
Food Service
- All food servers are volunteers. Please follow their
instructions and help them where needed. Feeding 500+ is not easy!
- There is a light breakfast of muffins, juice, and coffee
served from 8:00 to 9:00.
- It is really hard to make coffee for hundreds. We try to
keep two full thermos running at all times.
- If you are really into coffee, stop by Starbucks on the way
in. There is one a half mile down Virginia Avenue.
- Lunch is Frank and Eddie's hoagies, chips, and cookies. Please limit
your portion to two sandwich slices. Lunch is 11:20-12:30.
- Lunch is very crowded. Follow the instructions and keep lines
moving.
- There are vegetarian choices. That table is to the far right
of the line.
- Afternoon snack are Philadelphia Soft Pretzels. They will be
available at both afternoon breaks at 1:50 and 3:20.
- Drinks are available most of the day. It might help to bring
your own water or juice and keep it in the car. Sometime we run
low.
- There are vending machines in the cafeteria for late snacks.
They will be empty late in the afternoon.
- This is a volunteer effort. Please help keep DeVry clean.
Pick up any items you see lying around.
Sponsors & Prizes
- Prizes are awarded in some rooms depending on availability.
- There are many prizes raffled at the end of the day. You
must be present to win. Philly.NET has a
Samsung Go netbook and an XBOX 360.
- Several sponsors have tables in the common room. Make sure
you visit them and sign up for their drawings.
- General raffle winners are drawn from registered attendees that picked
up their badge.
- Another prize (Zune HD 32) is awarded based on
completed evaluations. That is announced one week after camp
ends.
After Hours Party
- There is a speaker party after every Code Camp. This year we are
inviting all attendees.
- Come to Shanachie Pub
in Ambler from 5:30-7:30. There will be appetizers and a cash bar.
- Speakers get drink tickets. Pest them for freebies.
